Amazing Street Art Site.

I Just found this amazing site about street art. There are so many beautiful pieces and works of art. Take a look if you get the time.

I have always loved graffiti, street art, and random things you find on the street. It actually makes me sad when I see amazing  works of art and graffiti painted over. If you take the time to look, you can see a small mark evolve into a surface changing piece of art.  I understand that many people see it street art as vandalism or a sign of gang violence, but some of the time street art adds new vitality and uniqueness to the neighborhoods. It creates a history of who was there.

One city that has embraced its street art is Philadelphia.  They have even created an ongoing program called the mural arts program, which allows the community to beautify their neighborhood through large and beautiful murals that celebrate Philadelphia history, culture, ethnicities, and neighborhoods.  These murals can be found in every neighborhood in Philadelphia, both poor and affluent.  And guess what!? You can volunteer and help create one of these beautiful, or even take a tour of the murals.

I know many of you have already seen it, but if you haven't, go watch Banksy's Oscar Nominated movie Exit Through The Gift Shop. By the end, it becomes a commentary on art and the stealing of ideas, but the beginning is a pretty interesting documentary on Street Art. I think you will enjoy the whole film.

Oh and if you don't know who Banksy is, you are not alone! No one Does!  But here is his website: http://www.banksy.co.uk/menu.html
